LITERACY PARK

Tutoring Oakland students to academic success

OUR MISSION

Literacy Park is dedicated to increasing equity in education by providing free, high-quality academic tutoring to elementary students in Oakland. We aim to close the literacy gap (in both ELA and math!) for racially/ethnically and economically marginalized students in Oakland.

Students welcomed into Literacy Park engage in weekly or biweekly tutoring from an expert educator. These lessons aim to bring students up to grade-level standards in ELA and Math, as well as to engage them in environmental science relevant to their local community, including horticulture and outdoor education.

Our educators have years of experience and a track record of success in literacy intervention. Here at Literacy Park, we know that teachers deserve fair pay for their expertise and service to our community, and so we pay them accordingly.

Let's close the literacy gap for our students while we also close the pay gap for our teachers!

"Parker knows everything! They can help me solve any problem in any subject. They always challenge my thinking and get me to understand why the answer is what it is."
